Crystal Charged Food!! Cooking with Love

I LOVE food! It is not a secret. Growing up I was blessed with a mother that always made me homemade food and I am so happy to share my lifelong experience with food and love with you.

Everyone knows processed foods are not really the best for us, designed for a society of busy people and somehow transformed into an interesting ingredient mashup. I have eaten my share of this convenience and realize that I am much more happy (and healthy) eating food prepared with love from the heart….not a box.

People ask me what diet I follow, truth is I strive for the best of all worlds! Why? because I have tried and tested and experimented and realize what feels the best to me. Paleo, Vegan, Gluten free, I like to eat the tasty healthy food in all categories. I say no to pesticides and well, chemicals really, as well as harmful processing and unnecessary ingredients. We all know how we FEEL, and that is very important when eating right! The point if food is to nourish us, even if you are busy, your food should make you and the ones you love Feel good, energized and ready to live life to the fullest, not tired and run down.

I am here to help!! I am so grateful for everyday to be able to increase the health benefits of the food I make for myself and everyone around me. I have studied many different healing arts and practices such as Ayurveda (India) and Chinese herbalism ,as well as research such as that from Masaru Emoto and the Gerson institute to name a few. Growing up around exposure to different religions and cultures I observed many different types of people performing their daily cooking and eating methods. My further studies in cultural anthropology have made me realize one thing! One of my true passions is healthy food! MY holistic approach has brought me to realize that ingredients are important but attitude and love while preparing your food is too!

Growing up I had chronic asthma among other allergies. I limited my participation in physical activity due to asthma attacks and my allergy to cats, dust among others, prevented me from doing many things. I was always naturally inclined however to “healthy food”. Since I was a baby my mother cooked me only real homemade food and always communicated with me to find out what I needed. Growing up in a society much different than my mothers Portuguese roots and with increasingly modernization of foods available to us, some things I ate we did not realize were contributing to my asthma. Thankfully, through all my research and experience and attention to food, I have freed myself from the heavy hand of asthma and autoimmune issues and not needed to use an inhaler , steroid medication or breathing device for many years now.

The fun part of all of my life experience through the hard trials is that now I have a large collection of information that broadens the variety of delicious healthy foods I can prepare and offer everyone around me. My motivation is to only make food that satisfies everyones dietary needs (or “restrictions”) while bumping up flavor and nutrient content. Who wants to be healthy? We ALL do. Who has time to prepare and eat 20 heads of broccolli? NO ONE. That is not practical, and I am tired of hearing all the CAN’Ts about food.

I will go further into how I choose my ingredients in another post, here I just wanted to share a little bit about how I like to think about food.

I use the kitchen or space where I am preparing food as an opportunity to create positive healing intention. I wear crystals and smile and do a little dance and sing all to promote positive healing into the food itself. If you believe even partly the research of Masaru Emoto and his study on water ( we are water and alot of our food is most certainly part water) then the method which I utilize when making food for myself and others will only increase the benefits of my food! Delicious, extra nutritious and healing….yes please. Plus who wants a moody, negative, angry person making them food? NOT ME!

I cook with love and I wear crystal hath panja bracelets, I use natural stone mortar and pestles to fresh grind my salt and use my hands as much as possible.Reconnect with your food, reconnect with yourself. Love your food, love yourself.

Vegan superfood Key Lime Pie

Oh my gosh!! Healthy and Vegan and Raw and Avocado!! Who says being healthy is boring and bland? NOT I! And for real….its pretty darn easy. I love avocado, so I thought about the final taste of this recipe in a win win scenario. If it came out tasting too much like avocado then it would be ok with me….BUT…I know some very NON AVOCADO people who I wanted to include in my enjoying this pie(not talking about the people who get itchy when they eat it, just the ones who say they do not like avocado.) I was super surprised that one of the biggest avocado decliners I know….ate more than one slice of this pie, said “mmmm” the whole time , and had (still has!!) absolutely no idea…that it is basically all avocado(hehe). Though I love to come up with my own recipes, this specific pie was a slightly customized version of Mona Zavosh recipe featured on Popsugar. I substituted a few things and everyone loved it!!

~~INGREDIENTS~~

-Crust –

12 vegan graham crackers ( I used Annie’s Organic Honey Grahams)

9 medjool dates, pitted( I used one cup  Wild & Raw Organic Sun-Dried Mulberries)

5 tablespoons triple-filtered coconut oil

1 lime, zested( I zested all of the limes I used for the juice! used to garnish and add extra for those who wanted)

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

**For a superfood boost I added 1 tbsp of gelatinized maca to the crust!!

-Filling-

1 cup raw cashews, soaked in 3 cups water overnight

3 medium avocados, about 14 ounces(  I used 6 mini ones)

3/4 cup fresh lime juice

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup

1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon triple-filtered coconut oil

1 tablespoon lime zest

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

-Topping-

2 cans cold coconut cream whipped with powder Monk Fruit

2 tablespoons Organic Hemp Hearts/ seeds

1 lime, zested ( I had extra for yummy fun)

~~DIRECTIONS~~

  1. Place graham crackers into a food processor ( or vitamix) pulse until fine. Take the mulberries and a splash of coconut cream into the vitamix , blend until smooth. add oil, zest and salt. Blend and combine crust ingredients until mixed completely.
  2.  Press the crust into the bottom of a 10-inch springform pan.( a pie pan will work also) Freeze the crust while you make the filling.
  3. Drain and rinse the cashews. Blend with 1/4 cup lime juice until smooth. Then blend in the rest of the filling ingredients until completely mixed and creamy.
  4. Pour the filling over the frozen crust and smooth out the top with an offset spatula. Freeze the pie for 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Once the pie is frozen, top with the whipped topping, lime zest, and hemp seeds.
  6. Allow the pie to thaw at room temperature for 20 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy this tart and creamy treat morning, noon, or night!

 

Superfood “CHACHA” Sprinkles

Superfood for super days and feeling super awesome!! I talk about superfood all the time and to me a superfood is anything that is…well…super ! Super packed with nutrition per morsel and bite because like I said before, no one has time to prepare or eat 20 heads of broccoli a day..for real.

Ok !Ok! you say, sign me up, what do I do, where do I buy it and please let it taste good! Don’t worry sweet friend, I totally hear ya’! Superfood “Chacha” Sprinkles is one of my all time favorite recipes for a yummy snack you can use to bump up the nutritional value of ANY dish (salad,popcorn,burritos,sandwiches,soup, tacos make as a dip for carrots…really mostly everything) and its easy to take with you too! I keep a little shaker of it in my bag so if I have the chance to make a salad( or am in a meeting with friends who do not eat like I do) I can just shake some on and OHMMMM my, we have nutrients.

All you need are the ingredients and a bowl to mix them all up, perhaps a jar to keep it in and a travel shaker ( yes please reuse a sweet salt shaker that is empty or the like).

*****Superfood Starseed Sprinkles******

(I call it my Chacha Sprinkles but you can call it whatever your heart desires)

2 cups Nutritional yeast

1/2 cup Cashews (powdered in a coffee grinder, food processor)

3 tbsp Spirulina ( I love it, some people not so much …if its new to you start smaller 🙂 My favorite is from Raw Revelations Superfoods and you can order HERE )

2 tsp Garlic powder (  I alternate with Hing)

2 tbsp Cayenne ( I like it spicy but if it is not your thing leave it out or use less)

2 tsp Asafetida(hing) {I use instead of garlic, similar flavor so either or, unless you like the remix!!}

1/2 cup Pumpkin seeds

1/2 cup Sesame seeds

1/2 cup  Hemp seeds

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

3 tbsp Mustard Seeds(yellow) {these little guys have a kick so again, try it out or leave it out }

3 tbsp Kalonji (black ) seeds – now these I really like but they are a bit different, do not worry if you can not find them( at local middle eastern or indian spice place) If you get some I hope you love them like I do, if not the mix is still super delicious without them.

YAY! So you have all the goods, mix it all up in a bowl and then jar it for convenient sprinkling later.

Neem

About 7 years ago I came across the Neem Tree from India. I was inspired by Ayurveda (** one of the world’s oldest holistic (whole-body) healing systems.) I was instantly all about NEEM! I first tried capsules with the leaf and after further research I opted for the veggie caps which are complete with flower ,leaf,and bark. New Favorite Vegan Cookie Recipe

I love treats! But I also like to feel good… So I love finding new recipes that bring the best of both worlds. Healthy treats do not have to taste like cardboard or worse…weird sweetness. I found the inspiration for this recipe  from Sweetly Raw , I love Heather and all of her Recipies!  I did a little bit of an experiment when I tried my version of this recipe {with my skeptical friends and family} I made two batches of cookies: one with this vegan recipe and one with a paleo recipe that included eggs. It was an overwhelmingly clear result..VEGAN COOKIES!!! I did not even tell anyone that the cookies were different ingredients, I simply put them all out and watched the magic happen. I am here to share my success so here it is…the magical recipe for every ones new favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe {and it is super simple and quick!}

 

These take a whoppin’ 10 minutes to bake!!! And if you do not get distracted like me it is about 5 minute prep time.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees ( Bake time 11 minutes!!!)

Ingredients

1 Cup Organic Almond Flour

1/3 cup oats

1/2 cup chocolate chips I used  Lily’s Dark Chocolate Chips- 1×9 OZ
3 tbsp Avocado oil  or melted coconut oil

3 tbsp coconut nectar/maple syrup/honey {I used a combo }

1/8 tsp celtic sea salt{ I used Red Salt}

1/4 tsp Baking soda

1/2 tsp vanilla extract {I love vanilla so I may have snuck in a bit more}

{These cookies got such a good response that I doubled the ingredients for my next batches and they were still gone before they cooled!}

{{ IF you feel adventurous you can substitute a little of the oats(1 or 2 tbsp) for a little bit of raw cacao powder or one of my favorites.. sneak in superfood mixes!! It bumps up the nutrient content and these cookies are already super healthy might as well make them even more quilt free!! – here are links to the superfoods I tried .. and everyone loved .~coffee LESSS latte fix, remedy your adrenals and Heavenly hot chocolate mix }}

*~*~*OK! LETS MAKE THESE COOKIES NOW!!~~~~If you have a food processor, put the oats in first..then dry ingredients…then wet.

If you are mixing by hand then simply mix the dry ingredients really well and then the wet. I like to use my hands so that is what I did.

The dough is a little crumbly but i just made equal size balls and flattened them a little with my hand and they came out amazing!

******BAKE FOR 11 minutes and ENJOY!!!*******

Thank goodness for superfoods because without them being healthy would take so much more time! Who doesn’t want more nutrients in their life? But honestly eating 10 heads of broccoli a day seems a bit ridiculous right? Superfoods make eating healthy easier because you need less and usually get way more benefits and it is so much quicker!Join me in discovering new ways to eat delicious food as well as experiment to find flavorful new combinations utilizing ingredients from around the world.

Raw Revelations is one of my favorite places to get my superfoods .  Raw Revelations has sustainably sourced, fair trade, amazing quality superfoods from all over this sweet planet. After seeing such positive results from changing my diet (chronic asthma since childhood gone!) I began searching for a delicious new and more efficient way to keep the healthy food going. One day I was wishing there was a place that had all of my favorite exotic superfood ingredients. In my searching for such a place I  came across a gem in Murrieta, Ca. It just so happens that this wonderful place had been around the corner from my home at the time. I am so glad to have the opportunity to experience their tonic bar in person.   1. Latte Fix!

One of my first loves discovered at Raw Revelations was coffee fix (which is in the latte fix) before the latte fix mix was even an idea. Latte fix is so delicious and I like to make it “bulletproof” style with nice healthy fats ( ghee,grass fed butter,MCT or coconut oil). It is marketed towards “weight-loss”  but I like to think of it as healthy weight regulating. It supports healing in various parts of your body in order to get things running like they should in balance and a “side effect” is weight-loss if your body was holding on to anything extra. The way it is balanced helps balance you! Latte Fix beverage mix  is a well balanced food and remedies many things that can be “off” from the many stresses to our body throughout the day(including coffee). It tastes good, it makes you feel optimal and it is amazing for your health.  Replacing coffee was not my intention when I first started purchasing latte fix, I actually put it in coffee sometimes as I love the flavor, but goodness knows I do not need the caffeine. I prefer the original formula with whey protein, but there is also now a vegan version that is maybe just a lick less creamy but equally as delicious.

2.Bag of Tricks!

Yes it sure is! A nice bag of tricks! A healthy bag of tricks! I love this because it is yet another blend that you can mix into smoothies(or whatever beverage you blend in the morning with stuff. The blends are ready to scoop into your recipe and go. I used to have all my favorite herbs and superfoods separate, which not only can contribute to waste(overly enthusiastic package opening),but also takes extra seconds that we might not always have. 3. MSM morning mix !

GOOD MORNING! Wake up on whatever side of the bed you want but start your day right with this pepper upper. Admittedly it is not the most yummy delicious mix in terms of palate but MSM is naturally a bit different compared to our normal everyday diet. For me the warning of tartness was more of a motivation to practice being good to my body, rather than an intimidating turn off. I fell in love with this energizing super mix as soon as I tried it for the first time.It is worth the seconds of bitterness for the clean energy and revitalized feeling you experience.

What does it do exactly??! Msm morning mix works so quick within 10-15 minutes I feel less inflammation, goodbye tummy ache, hello hydration ,detox and increase nutrient bio-availability! It is recommended you start the day with MSM morning mix, feel so great you can skip the coffee or make your coffee work better!! If you start your day with this blend, the rest of the day will be more efficient within your body. The water you drink will be more easily used by your body cells and necessary function. Many people drink a lot of water but its not actually hydrating them! AH! Nutrients from your food also are more useful if your body actually gets the most of it. Who wants to eat healthy food and take supplements when your body is not even able to incorporate it in your body functions? Not I!

Rose is said to have the highest spiritual frequency of all essential oils. It opens the heart chakra, allowing one to feel unconditional love.

  • It is also one of the most expensive oils as it takes 4000 kg of rose petals to produce 1kg of pure essential rose oil!
  • The oil has a beautiful floral scent and its influence is calming and elevating to the mind, creating a sense of well-being.
  • Rose awakens our capacity for self-love, self-compassion and self-nurturing for emotional wounds.
  •  Rose enhances romance and love. It is also helpful for alleviating depression and insomnia.

Eucalyptus symbolizes openness and freedom. It is stimulating, decongestive, and soothing on the Lungs and the chest. It opens the chest area and allows flow of energy through the heart chakra.

  • Eucalyptus is often used in respiratory ailments, bronchitis and colds. On the psychological level, Eucalyptus is a central nervous system sedative, it calms and uplifts the spirit.
  • Use eucalyptus to help clear sinuses and cure a sore throat or coughing, allowing this passageway to become free and clear for self-expression.
  • Lavender oil is one of the most well-known essential oils for releasing stress as it is incredibly calming to the mind and body. Lavender boosts the immune system and is great for headaches; a common occurrence whenever your third eye is blocked. We can calm the active mind with lavender to reach a higher state of consciousness.
  • Helps heal burns and wounds
  •  Treatment for insomnia and improves sleep in general.
  • Helps regulate heart rate variability and circulation
  • Soothes pains like those caused by sore and tense muscles, muscular aches, rheumatism, sprains, backache and lumbago.
  • Beneficial for respiratory problems including throat infections, flu, cough, cold, asthma, sinus congestion, bronchitis, whooping cough, laryngitis, and tonsillitis.

Mango Lassi Healthy Digestion Drink Recipe

I love Lassi! What is Lassi? A traditional mango drink made in India usually made with yogurt,milk, mango, sugar or salt, and spices like cardamom. Lassi can be made with fruit or nutritious herbs and flowers. My healthy version of this delicious traditional drink ditches the dairy and helps boost digestive health. I will share some of my favorite mix-ins in the recipe.

Though I do not necessarily claim a special diet in order to describe myself, I do like to eat the best gifts I can find from the earth.  Ingredients are best when they are good for as many types of people as possible. Using my favorite ingredients makes it easy to create treats that are easy for as many people, from as many diet preference backgrounds to enjoy. I like to take delicious traditional foods and substitute my favorite ingredients!So my Lassi is no exception.

A basic Lassi is :yogurt,sugar,ice,(mango),spices.  For those who are trying to heal their gut and have no sugar,dairy etc. diet, my recipe is a refreshing upgrade.

*~*Chacha Mamas Lassi (Bee Lassi)*~*

14oz Coconut cream

3/4 cup Almond milk

1 cup Mango chunks

3-4 tbsp Honey

Spices: Cardamom,vietnemese or ceylon cinnamon

Pinch Salt : I used Hibiscus Sumac Salt from the spice lady!

Pinch Colostrum Garnish*

Fresh Mint

~I change the amount of mix in depending on what fun ingredients I have.~

Blend together and enjoy!

I get my coconut cream (make sure its cream and not milk) from the Asian store. The brand I use is Savoy it is pure coconut and so creamy.

**Colostrum is from bovine(cow) before the milk , just like humans. It is a probiotic and many who have issues with dairy are not effected negatively by colstrum. Most even note decrease in reaction to dairy after useing colostrum. It is very beneficial for the digestive system.
